THE HISTORIC AUMONT HOTEL

The historic Aumont Hotel is situated two blocks north of the Guadalupe County Courthouse in downtown Seguin, TX. Construction began on the Aumont in 1914 and was completed in November 1916. The Aumont was designed by the Texas renowned architect Atlee B. Ayers. The hotel opened its doors with an inaugural dinner by the newly hired hotel manager and master chef Van Gilder from San Antonio.
The Aumont went through many changes over the decades and finally closed its doors in the mid 1970’s. The hotel was no longer a safe habitat and was in violation of local city and fire codes.
In 2003 the hotel was purchased by Houston businessman Thomas Giles and renovations began. In 2006 the Aumont opened its doors again to its first guests in over 30 years. The ground floor of the hotel has remained in its original condition. The lobby sports a unique chicken wire tiled floor, the solid wood hotel check-in desk, and the small walk-in coat check closet leading to the ballroom. The wide opened stairs that lead to the entrance of the ballroom are laid in solid marble. The hotels restaurant with full commercial kitchen always remains open to the public with its main entrance door perched along the wide sidewalk of North Austin Street. The mezzanine level still overlooks the main lobby area as well as the ballroom. This area also extends out over the roof of the restaurant to an outside uncovered patio area with walk-up wet bar.
The second and third floors were converted from hotel rooms to luxury New York style apartment lofts. The lofts are available in efficiency, one bedroom one bath, a larger one bedroom two bath, and a grand two bedroom two bath with large living and dining area. The lofts come equipped with central a/c and heat, antique claw foot bathtubs, hardwood and/or tiled floors, and genuine granite kitchen counter tops.
The top floor is reserved for professional office space. Current tenants include a law firm, a family health counseling office, a real estate office, and the building’s own leasing and administrative offices.
